When is it the right time to get it all backwards?
Turning Reality Upside Down to get it Right-side Up... sometimes we don’t “get it right” the first time around and we need to “turn things around” to see them from the best perspective… That’s the Power in what is known as a “Reverse Poem”, which sends one message when read one way, but when you literally “flip the script” and read it, line by line, from bottom to the top, it opens our eyes…
in honor of some pretty big birthdays my Wife Carrie & I are having very soon, I wrote this “reverse poem”, and the first reading is the easy way to feel, with every unfolding year, but the second way, same words but lines in reverse, is less about unraveling years and more about unwrapping presents, in the Present… I hope you enjoy this, I give to You -
"How much is left in me"
I'm too old
So don't try to persuade me that
I'm not as old as the mirror reflects
Because at the end of the day
The Wrinkles are what matters
And I'm not going to lie to myself by saying
My Best is Yet Ahead
So be assured I will remind myself
That numbers matter
And nothing you say will make me believe
How Old I feel is inconsequential
Because no matter what
Glasses half-full or half-empty matter
And I'm in no position to cling to believing
What more is there to be
Because whenever I look in the mirror I always think
How much is left in me
