Coach’s-Corner: Why “Not Keeping Score” is 100% like Practice, and Zero% about WiNNiNG!

In The Coaches-Corner, all the walls are covered in "Chicken-scratch"... and it's BEAUTIFUL!

OK Coach-JiM, What’s one lesson you’ve learned from a client that has stuck with you?
Imagine working with a Man who was about to lose his high-school sweetheart of a wife, to her second bout with Breast-cancer, and SHE told him to go hire a Trainer because she knew that very soon, she wouldn’t be around to take care of him.

It was almost 30 years ago, his name was Mike, and he’d had Diabetes for decades, and he came to me and said, “I guess I need to learn to take care of myself.” Boy, did he learn…

Mike, within 2 years of Training with me and Lifestyle overhaul, actually got approval from his Physician, to go OFF of injected insulin for his Diabetes. His efforts were Herculean and pain-staking, and within the first year of going “insulin-injection’ free, he and his Physician decided for him to go back on insulin… I remember Mike telling me “I did it, I know how to take care of myself now… Linda would be proud.” Linda was his Wife he’d lost.

If you ask Mike what was his secret, it was short, sweet life-philosophy:

"Winners always keep score"
"If you're not keeping score, it's just practice."

I don’t know who taught it to him, but Mike taught it to me and it’s been the Secret-sauce for my mosr successful Clients through the years… but not all methodology is the same.
First, be sure to consider the old school Paper method, and steer clear of the High-Tech-Train-Wreck approach if you’re in the Gym, ‘cuz I see too much swiping and too little sweating, too much messaging and too little muscling, every day in the Gym… but your old school paper journal is a quick "jot it down and get back down to Business, and busy-town.
So the next time someone asks
"How much do you bench, Bro'?" You can give them the best answer anyone could ask for...
"I DON'T Bench press, but I just strictly Incline fly'd 160lbs for 11 reps...Bro'!"
