"I've fallen (onto the couch), and I can't get (my Backside to remember how to get) back Up!"

Did you know that gluteal amnesia is a very real thing and you may be dangerously close to losing the use of your caboose?

Amnesia, or the thought of it, can be very scary, so long as we remember what it's really about...*(See what I did there?!?)

Amnesia is a general term for memory loss that can be temporary or permanent. It can involve the inability to recall facts, information, or experiences, and can be a symptom of other conditions or occur on its own.  

The term "glute amnesia", aka "dead butt syndrome", (not to be confused with "dead ass syndrome" which would really be "beating a dead horse...mule, political party mascot, etc)... simply means the glutes forgot how to work the way they once did so naturally, the way God intended (Yes, God had a plan for your buttocks, Forest Gump, that's why He created it... Not just to sit on some Park bench, talking to strangers and sharing a Box of Chocolates). 

But honestly, it's not complete and total amnesia, ya' know like the kind that happens all the time in Soap Opera's when the writers need an excuse for what the main character will do next... "To be continued"

No, it's more like a very fuzzy memory where your nervous system hasn't been asked to get all up in them butt-cheeks and get some work done... They've grown weaker and parts of them have been AWOL for so long that nobody thought to go looking for their lost muscle fiber-cousins until, well, until it may be "too late"... Or is it?!?

Truth be told, if your glutes did not know how to work or couldn't work, Total Amnesia, then you wouldn't be able to stand, get up off the couch or squat on the pot. The glutes have not forgotten "how to" work, so much as they've not been sufficiently stimulated and challenged and have atrophied (nobody likes a case of ass-atrophy), and as we always say, the body is "use it or lose it" and many of us have lost more tush than we know how to push ourselves to regain.

So, can we get it all back? When it comes down to our "down there" region, is it a case of Total Amnesia past a certain point, or is there a chance for a Total Recall, where our glute muscles are just waiting to go all "Arnold" and say "I'll be back!"  The glutes can become truly weak in our world and lifestyle , meaning that demands and activities have not been performed to strengthen them, BUTT, (see what I did there) the problem might not be in our Posterior's...at least not exclusively.

Prolonged sitting tightens our hips, and a tight hip flexor inhibits the function of our entire hip structure, including our glutes, so listen to Shakira...

The hips don't lie!

The TRUE amount of glute you can recruit is not just about doing the things that make your "ass" look more "massive", as seen in Gyms these days...  Because how your glutes look doesn't necessarily depict their strength (size does not equate to strength).

 Why? Your buttocks is comprised of muscles and bodacious booty bodyfat. (aka adipose tissue). In life some things are made to appear capable but just can't get the job done when called upon (look at some of our Politician's!!!) Then again, your glutes and hip flexors may be strong but there could be additional underlying conditions & vulnerabilities that prevent spectacular posterior performance because if your back is weak in another way, your "backside" will still suffer, as your body tries to protect something far more important than your "fanny"... Your spinal column.

Simply having strong glutes does not prevent back pain from occurring. You can be strong & for some other reason still have poor movement patterns that can contribute to back pain. Having an "awakened-a$$" and Glute-recruitment is important, but there is more to consider -
